W11 Reflection: Attitude on Money
This week, I learned that money isn't good or bad—it's what we do with it that matters. One part that stood out to me from Stephen W. Gibson’s talk was how he explained the "filters" we all have when it comes to seeing the world, including how we see money. Our family, culture, and beliefs shape the way we think. I really connected with that because I’ve seen how my own thinking about money comes from how I was raised.
Something else that meant a lot to me was the idea that money has power, not just for personal comfort, but for doing good. Gibson shared the story of Jon Huntsman and how he gave to others even when he didn’t have a lot. That made me reflect on what kind of person I want to be. I don’t want to wait until I have "enough" money to help people. I want to build the habit now.
Finally, I loved the list of six "rules" at the end of the talk. One that stuck with me is “Think about money and plan how you can become self-reliant.” I realized I need to be more intentional with my future planning, saving, and learning more about financial literacy.
This reading changed the way I view money. I used to feel uncomfortable talking about it. Now, I see it as a tool from God that can help me bless my family and others. I’m excited to learn how to manage it better and live with purpose. I want to be someone who prospers and helps others prosper, too.
