W02 – Entrepreneurial Journal: Childhood Dreams and Life Lessons

By Getzels De Los Santos

This week’s materials, especially Randy Pausch’s "Last Lecture," really touched me. It’s amazing how someone facing death could still teach with so much energy, purpose, and gratitude. Randy was able to achieve so many of his childhood dreams because he never stopped believing they were possible. He worked hard, stayed positive, and kept pushing forward even when he hit "brick walls." He said those walls were there to test how badly we want something, not to stop us. That message really stuck with me.

I absolutely believe that dreaming is important. Dreams give our lives direction and purpose. They inspire us to stretch, to grow, and to try—even when the path is difficult. When we stop dreaming, we stop progressing. Dreams also help us stay connected to who we really are inside, especially as we go through responsibilities and challenges in life.

One of my childhood dreams was to create something with technology that people around the world could use. At that time, I didn’t fully understand what that meant, but today, as a software developer, I see the possibility of that dream coming true. I still have a long way to go, but now I’m working toward launching my own software company. It feels like a real calling, not just a goal. I believe I can achieve it through faith, learning, and persistence—just like Randy taught.

Another thing I reflected on this week is how important it is to live with meaning. It’s not just about success or money. It’s about being present with my family, serving others, and leaving something good behind. I want my kids to see me living with purpose so they can do the same.
